Competence development of geoscientists at Total E&P Indonésie
Year: 2014
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 38th Ann. Conv., 2014
The four geosciences disciplines, viz. geology, reservoir, geophysics, and geo-information, at Total E&P Indonésie (TEPI) encompass over 200 permanent and 100 contracted employees. More than 150 new recruits were employed during the last seven years, the majority of whom are hired directly from the university with either a BSc or MSc degree. This massive recruitment campaign was needed to cope with the huge operational activities on the operated Mahakam PSC. This important number of recruitments has also been done to mitigate the increasing turn-over due to market situation. Accordingly, continuous recruitment is foreseen for the upcoming years.
A systematic training passport for each geosciences discipline (referred to as Geosciences Passport) was implemented to facilitate the organization of trainings in order to further develop the knowledge and competence of new recruits. During the first five to seven years of employment, each person will follow between 90 and 110 training days, depending on their previous experience and metier. All geologists will spend between 6 and 12 months as a Well Site Geologist to gain operational competency. Every two/three year’s people will follow job rotation from one asset to another asset, as part of their career development plan. In a few cases, long term training abroad and/or On the Job Training in Total research facilities is organised.
Training is general organised in class rooms of limited size and given by either in-house instructors (either for Total France or TEPI), or supplied by local vendors. Benefiting being close to the outcrops and the Mahakam Delta, regular fieldtripsare also organized to introduce and refresh on both sedimentological as well as reservoir characteristics of the Kutai basin deposits.
Special attention is given to Well Site Geologists, both permanent as well as contracted, and their competency is evaluated with a simulator.
