A bibliography and brief history of Indonesia, geology literature
Year: 2009
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 33rd Ann. Conv., 2009
A vast amount of literature has been published on the geology of Indonesia. The purpose of this paper is to create awareness of all published material relevant to the interpretation of the fascinating geological laboratory that is the Indonesian Archipelago. It is a brief history of geologic investigations and is intended to be a road map to selected key papers from the various periods, areas and sub-disciplines. A case is made that there is still much relevant information in the classic surface geology and paleontological studies, some over one hundred years old. Also, many recent papers in relatively new disciplines, such as GPS plate motions, seismic tomography, improved radiometric techniques, zircon age dating for sandstone provenance studies, etc., are relevant for hydrocarbon exploration. A listing of over 7000 references is included in the CD-ROM version of these 2009 IPA Proceedings. It is a traditional bibliography, alphabetically listing papers by region or subject. It does not pretend to be complete or contain all of the significant publications, although only few papers that were clearly obsolete or redundant were deliberately omitted. Despite best efforts, literature from limited-distribution academic and government institutional journals may be under-represented, and there is also some inevitable bias towards the authors fields and areas of interest. Help is requested to improve this in a future edition.
