A complete limitation approach at the Mike-Mike (MM) area shows that the performance of artificial lift applications at the MRA platform in the ONWJ fieldis important to be preserved and maintained periodically. All gas lift wells at the MRA platform have high potential to be operated with profitable gains and an attractive return on investment. The main challenge is to determine any facilities limitation for further field optimization and intervention and move towards an economic operational standard of excellence with no sacrifice in safety.
The limitation approach is based on the integrated numerical calculations of gas compression system performance, gas cooling effectiveness and gas lift pipeline restriction. It considers pressure, temperature, mass flow rate and gas density respectively to deliver a sufficient artificial lift application at the MRA platform. Technical assessment is continued to determine a “as low as reasonably practicable” solution that is feasible to be done in the working field. It shows that pressure generation of the gas compression system has a high dependency on the performance of the air cooled heat exchanger as part of the main gas cooling system at the MM flow station.
An effective artificial lift strategy has significant potential to increase oil production at a higher rate and affect the performance of its marginal fields. Moreover, gas compression and the cooling system’s reliability shall be monitored and maintained properly under an effective further maintenance strategy. The novelty of the limitation approach is in the ability to solve multidiscipline calculations integrated with field intervention and safe optimization.
