Year: 2014
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 38th Ann. Conv., 2014
The expansion of PT Medco E&P – Rimau Asset operations has produced an attendant increase in waste generation. All of this waste must be handled responsibly, and if managed effectively can be a considerable resource. Consequently, Medco Rimau Asset has been applying integrated waste management to process its organic and inorganic waste. This successful program has improved the Company’s ability to minimize environmental pollution and utilize organic and inorganic waste as a resource.
Company management has a strong commitment to improving environmental management by emphasizing cleaner production through a “Reuse, Reduce and Recycle” (3R) strategy for resources and waste. Waste-paper management has been applied through reusing paper or using both sides of paper, and using an online system as the standard means of communication or messaging among sections and departments, therefore, minimalizing the use of paper.
Waste recycling also has been applied to produce compost from organic waste. Furthermore, the compost has been used to replace chemical fertilizer for re-vegetation activities. Meanwhile, waste-paper is being treated for recycling and conversion into calendars, business cards, portfolio and envelopes.
These integrated waste management activities support PT Medco E&P Indonesia – Rimau Asset (Medco Rimau Asset) in solving the problem of organic and inorganic waste disposal and in addition have resulted in Medco Rimau Asset being awarded the Gold Rating from the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Indonesia in 2011. Medco Rimau Asset became the first E&P Company in Indonesia to be awarded the highest rating in environment management, a major achievement for the Company.
