BD Field - a case history
Year: 1990
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 19th Ann. Conv., 1990
The BD field, located in the western portion of the Madura Strait block, East Java Sea, Indonesia, is interpreted to be an east-west trending Miocene reefal build-up. The field was discovered in 1987 by the BD-1 wildcat well. The well encountered oil and gas from Early Miocene carbonates and Pliocene clastics. The BD structure was originally recognized on 1985 and 1986 seismic grid and the reefal interpretation made after reprocessing one 2-D seismic line. However, the lateral definition of the structure was not clear due to the coarse grid of the seismic lines. A 3-D seismic survey was shot over the structure following the BD-1 discovery. The 3-D data provide a better definition of reservoir size and thickness and the shape of the BD structure. Based on interpretation of the 3-D data, BD-2 appraisal well was drilled. The appraisal well shows the accuracy of the 3-D interpretation and confirmed the BD field discovery.
