Estimations of porosity and permeability model on carbonate reservoir using cross-plot analysis and acoustic impedance inversion in "Gandhi" field, Gumai Carbonate Formation, Sunda Basin

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015

The study on estimations of porosity and permeability has been done by correlating acoustic impedance, porosity and permeability using cross-plot analysis, well log data and acoustic impedance inversion. The relationship between acoustic impedance model and porosity model is based on linear equation which is obtained from the cross-plot relationship of both values. Whereas the relationship between permeability model and porosity model is based on exponential equation of cross-plot analysis between porosity and permeability. The inversion result shows the acoustic impedance values of carbonate reservoir of Gumai to Baturaja Formation are from 15300 to 28000 ((ft/s)*(g/cc)). Furthermore, the average porosity and permeability of carbonate reservoir is at approximately from 20% to 30% and ranging from 70 to 500 mD, respectively. Hence, it can be assumed as a very good reservoir. Based on those results, the next hydrocarbon prospect zone of the carbonate reservoir in Gandhi field can be determined. The location is an area where the good values on porosity and permeability present. Keywords: Acoustic Impedance Inversion, Porosity and Permeability Model, Cross-Plot Analysis.
