Gas Lift Pack Off – Creating a Deeper Gas Lift Injection Point to Improve Well Production
Year: 2016
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 40th Ann. Conv., 2016
Gas Lift Pack-Off (GLPO) is a method to create the gas lift passage from the well annulus into the tubing flow area at a desired location. The GLPO method would be preferred due to its simple application and lower project cost than tubing re-completion using a hydraulic unit or rig.
GLPO installation at a deeper injection point is expected toimprove well performance by increasing production due to higher drawdown and prolonging the production lifetime asthe reservoir declines.
This GLPO application has been implemented in well CP A-11. The well was drilled andcompleted with only 2 gas lift mandrels (GLM) which were intended only for initial kick-off process/unloading. After the kick-off, the well is expected not to require continuous gas lift injection since the gas from the formation should be able to auto lift the produced liquid.
In the late life of the well it had not been able to flow naturally, hence the well was put as a huff & puff production mode with very low production rate for a day after shut-in for 2 weeks. No permanent surface gas-lift injection line was available at that time.
When apermanent gas lift injection line was installed, the well could continuously flow with gas lifting. The gas was injected into GLM#2. Since the GLMs were installed at shallow depths, the drawdown pressure created was still not optimum therefore a deeper gas lift injection point was needed. The last static gradient survey indicated the reservoir pressure was still high.
After GLPO implementation, CP A-11 is now producing 84% higher compared to the previous production with injection gas lift at GLM#2.
