How Hudbay reduced CFC emissions
Year: 1990
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 19th Ann. Conv., 1990
The emission of chZorofZuorocarbons (CFCs) contributes to the reduction of the earth's ozone layer. The decrease in stratospheric ozone will lead to an increase in ultra violet radiation reaching the earth's surface. This in turn will lead to increase in the incidence of human skin cancer. This paper describes Hudbay Oil's investigation of its CFCs usage. The quantities lost are determined, also the reasons for such losses. Several methods to minimize the losses are described and the results obtained by implementing these changes are summarised. Particular emphasis is placed on the maintenance aspect of equipment using CFCs.
