How To Reconcile Security and Safety Issues With Seismic Quality in Obstructed and Populated Areas: Case study Handil 3D Seismic
Year: 2012
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 36th Ann. Conv., 2012
Handil 3D seismic TZ was acquired in both sensitive protected and industrialized environments with the crossing of numerous pipelines and production facilities. The area is also densely populated in the NW part of the Survey Grid which encompassed the town of Handil. The goal of the seismic acquisition was to acquire data with good seismic imaging whilst not damaging the environment surface installations and housing. The available standard safety reference charts are not optimal as they fix too conservative safety distances that are not compatible with 3D high density /quality seismic. The Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) methodology was used to calibrate the ground mechanics parameters and define the most adequate safety distance to apply on the survey in the vicinity of any surface construction. Electronic detonators were tested and used on a large scale as an innovative solution to secure the use of the explosives, improve the reliability (less misfires) and reduce risks when handling charges (transportation, loading, and shooting). specific procedures for better follow up, depth monitoring, and also to improve security for anomalous shot points (stuck or abandoned charges) were specially developed with the assistance of a dedicated security team of Explosive Loading Controllers in charge to monitor loadings and to report anomalies. The innovative approach regarding explosive and * Total E&P Indonesie ** Prima Langkah Pratama *** Institute of Technology Bandung SP to address quite sensitive security and safety issues on Handil was a success and will be continued on Future TZ 3D acquisitions planned in the Mahakam Delta.
