Identification of oil water contact movement in the Belida Field with cased-hole logs

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 31st Ann. Conv., 2007

The application of a cased-hole logging program over the mature Belida Field has successfully added information relating to the current oil-water contact and how that has moved through time. The application of cased-hole logging was used to optimize workover programs, especially in wells experiencing high water production. The movement of oil-water contacts in the Belida Field has been monitored to optimize recovery, enhance reservoir characterization, and capture un-swept oil in the field. The Belida example demonstrates a classic “piston oil sweep where the remaining oil is focused at the crest of the structural culminations. Both carbon/oxygen and cased-hole resistivity logs were run in several wells, often with contradictory interpretations. Initial results show that the casedhole resistivity data better reflects the actual saturations, based on subsequent production results. Increased oil production was attained by opening perforations at the upper part of sands as indicated as bypassed oil.
