Improving Reliability in the Traveling Block Braking System with the Innovation of "Faham" As A Safety Alert Tool for Mechanical Rigs at PT Pertamina EP Sukowati Field

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 48th Ann. Conv., 2024

The creation of the “FAHAM” tool has been focused on determining the success of the Traveling Block braking system as a mechanical rig safety alert. The main purpose of this innovative tool is to prevent the incidence of drilling operation accidents, especially in regard to failures due to human error.

The FAHAM (For Assist Human Automatic-brake Mechanism) system prioritizes alternatives to safety, time, operational, and cost factors. This tool is equipped with a limit switch which is a type of switch that functions to limit the movement or distance of an object. The limit switch operation is carried out by detecting the movement of certain objects or machine parts, and then sending a signal to the control system or actuator to stop or change the direction of movement of the object.

Actual testing (height) is done to measure the stability of the Traveling Block height using the pulse output from the sensor. The sensor used is a Rotary Encoder of 400 p/r AB, Multiplier 4, PPR (Pulse per Revolution of 1600 ppr) with channel B which is used as height sensor input. The use of sensors is expected to be part of a system that can help reduce the number of accidents, especially on the Traveling Block which functions to provide a warning for the tool pusher so that it can control the level of speed and height of the drawworks rope with a security system warning in the form of an alarm that can emit a sound as a warning of height and distance. The system also provides a warning in the form of an LED as a visual notification feature with several specific functions, namely yellow LED for warnings, and red for active brakes on the Auxiliary Brake.
