Community Development is one of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices embraced by oil & gas companies with intention to support operation and applied in Stakeholder engagement initiative. Company may have various perceptions in Community Development considering the qualitative elements involved whilst contemplating from planning to evaluation. Cultivate common understanding of Community Development value proposition can be challenging and at the same time introducing wider perspectives in determining company level of success in managing Stakeholder relations.
Anticipating such premise, it is essential to set parameter that is commonly understood and thus interpreting qualitative into quantitative element for Community Development initiative into Return on Social Investment (“RoSI”) is logically justified. RoSI hereby is developed as an indicator to measure the rate of returns introduced by Community Development program. The term of Social Investment reflects company ethical measure to benefit community at large rather than Company obligatory or burdening initiatives. RoSI calculation model is developed to articulate the success rate and derivative output of Community Development program generating an integrated view of CSR practices enabling project acceptance and operability as balanced return to the company and its Stakeholders.
Furthermore, RoSI is formulated with calculation enabling company to observe and optimize the value earned by community from investment spent for community development activities and how those contribute into elements of flawless project assurance. In the sense of overall and long term investment, company may not only harvest the tangibles but also intangible values in the form of project acceptance by Stakeholders and sustainable operation.
