Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 40th Ann. Conv., 2016
Sangasanga Field is located at Kutai Basin, which is the deepest tertiary basin in Indonesia. PT. PERTAMINA EP Asset V operates this field on behalf of Indonesian government. According to reservoir profile, hydraulic fracturing became one proven option to increase production rate in this structure.
Since 2014, several hydraulic fracturing treatments had been performed in this field. Some operational problems were encountered and also some lessons learned have been implemented to ensure equipment readiness. One of the challenge is to setup dual POD Blenders on location in order to have backup equipment for supporting operation. Low-pressure rig up, silo chute modification, and equipment commissioning were done to ensure operational capabilities.
When dual POD Blenders setup was done and ready for operation, another challenge was encountered related to the packer. Required weight for setting packer cannot be achieved due to lack of drill pipe and drill collar availability, thus live annulus system will be taken as the options for this operation. Assessment was performed, such as casing burst pressure rating, Christmas-tree pressure rating, and also installing and testing safety devices to ensure all operational safety were covered prior to proceed the operation since the live annulus system become first implementation in this area. Hydraulic fracturing operation was performed as per planned and decision on using live annulus is confirmed to be the correct action since real time bottom hole pressure showed actual formation behavior meanwhile the treating pressure was mostly affected by friction.
In summary, this paper is discuss about operational preparation and execution of hydraulic fracturing on Sangasanga Field, with main highlights on equipment preparation and decision to use live annulus, which proven to give advantages output on making accurate decision to ensure the successful of hydraulic fracturing treatment.
