Managing Oil Production and Gas Export from a mature Field, a Success Story and Future of a 20 year-old Field in Natuna Sea Block A
Year: 2010
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 34th Ann. Conv., 2010
Premier Oil took over the Natuna Sea Block A from Amoseas in 1996. This includes the Anoa field which had been producing oil since 1990 and was in decline. Premier Oil partially converted the Anoa field to a gas field in 2000 in order to supply gas sales to Singapore, whilst at the same time maintaining oil production and optimizing the remaining oil reserve. Block A also includes a number of other significant discoveries including the Gajah Baru field which forms the basis of a second gas sale to Singapore. Through well planned reservoir management and receptive development design, the redeveloped Anoa field has successfully contributed to the gas sale to Singapore, whilst continuing to maintain its oil production. In the years to come, the field is expected to be able to maintain the gas export and oil production through further field optimization. A challenging drilling and workover programme has been designed for 2010 to increase both oil production and gas delivery capability to provide security of gas supply for the gas sale. Plans include a horizontal well into an undrained fault block in the complex Anoa structure, deepening of an existing well, a workover programme, and compression reconfiguration. Today, the field is and expected to continue producing oil while producing a large volume of gas for Singapore. The field has been delivering 130-160 mmscfd and producing around 2000 BOPD. The oil production is expected to be double by end of 2010, whilst the gas production is expected to be maintained at its optimum (maximum) capacity. Latest assessment shows that Anoa reserve has increased by 40% from its initial Plan of Development (POD). Anoa field, now 20 years-old and once considered a marginal field, has proven that continuous reservoir assessment and receptive field development are able to overcome the challenges of gas sale opportunities whilst maintaining oil production in the field.
