New Fault Reinterpretation Using Edge seismic Attribute to Optimize WF Performance in Bekasap Field, Central Sumatra Basin

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 33rd Ann. Conv., 2009

Bekasap field is one of the matured waterfloods oil producers in Central Sumatra Basin. There are many faults found in the field that considered as important factor in effecting the fluid flow in the reservoirs. Unfortunately, creating a consistent geological fault interpretation from large 3Dseismic-data volumes often requires manual intervention, which is time-consuming, tedious, and imprecise. In this paper, new fault interpretation using EDGE seismic attribute is developed to delineate fault in 3D-seismic volumes which provides the interpreter with clearer visual indication of the fault surfaces. Based on EDGE method, four wells in Bekasap field are predicted to be located in the fault zone. Two wells are reported as dry wells (well #84, #90) while the other wells (well#52, #88) are producing oil less compared to nearby wells. This study shows an effective and powerful method for fault interpretation using 3D seismic data as well as to enhance reservoir subsurface mapping in faulted zone.
