Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 31st Ann. Conv., 2007
Petroleum exploration during the digital era has produced a large global data library. However, data condition, quality and availability in that library are typically variable, which tends to hinder rather than augment exploration. To fully expedite exploration, historical data needs to be accessible and in a versatile format. The North West Shelf Digital Atlas (NWSDA) of Australia is just such a digital library of petroleum data, with a common reference grid, available in easily accessible and ready-to-use project formats (SMT Kingdom and Landmark). The atlas comprises publicly released and open file information such as seismic data, horizon interpretations, well data and cultural information. The NWSDA provides a comprehensive database and a truly regional representation of the North West Shelf petroleum systems. It is an ideal tool for explorers unfamiliar with the region, as well as those wanting to increase their presence there. By accessing this database, companies can save both time and money in their Australian exploration activities. The success and popularity amongst oil companies of Digital Atlas projects from the North West Shelf, North Sea and West of Britain have shown that these are products of great value and as such PGS are keen to expand these projects into new geographies, including South East Asia.
