Offshore evaluation of hydrogen sulfide reservoirs

Increased activity in deep water drilling from floating vessels has spawned the development of new systems and adaptations of conventional systems for Formation Testing. Rigid safety and ecological standards can be economically met with these systems. The possibility of encountering hydrogen sulfide or C02 and the high cost of floating vessel operations and deep water completions demand an early and extensive evaluation of a reservoir. Sound fiscal and efficient planning of completions and production designs are based on meaningful reservoir data. Formation Testing is, of course, one of the key tools used by the evaluator. Built-in redundancy and the near failsafe nature of the systems in conjunction with new equipment such as pressure operated tools and remotely controlled valves have made safer and more reliable Formation Testing possible worldwide. New larger flow capacity tools permit better evaluation of high volume wells. Drawdown analysis, as well as buildup analysis can now be made on high volume wells by using the larger flow capacity systems. Design of the larger flow capacity systems are similar to the field proven and reliable systems being used on vessels around the world.
