Organic Acidizing, Unlock Remaining Oil in Tight Sandstone with High Clay Content and High Temperature, Case Study IB-0033
Year: 2018
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 42nd Ann. Conv., 2018
Easy oil is no longer easy. Sustaining production of a mature field now requires a less conventional approach. Ibul, a field in South Sumatera Block becomes a good example of this challenge. While still having decent remaining reserve numbers, it is also coming up with even tougher challenges production engineering wise. During a workover job in 2016, the well IB-0033 experienced what was suspected as severe formation damage. The well’s initial production after the workover could not reach the expected number, despite being assisted with a Sucker Rod Pump (SRP) as a form of artificial lifting. This became the perfect opportunity to trial a never-before applied stimulation technique in SSB. After a series of analysis and considerations, it was then proposed to conduct stimulation in the form of Organic Acidizing. Performing careful planning and execution, this stimulation effort succeeded in pushing the production of dead well to an average production of 54 BOPD. This success story is also un-lock the opportunity in other potential sandstone. The project is also contributed to government net income up to 2 million USD and 178,000 USD to company.
