Electric Submersible Pump as one of the artificial lift has several advantages such as a large enough range of capacities, can apply in small space surface facilities, and relatively good for wells that have sufficient dynamic liquid level inside. However, Electric Submersible Pump also has some shortcomings such as not resistant to high gas content, scale and sand problem. This paper will discuss the application of VSD in two wells with different cases. Watercut a drastic hike occurred in the well BST-01, thus optimizing the rapid pace needed to keep the wells remain in production. Authors will discuss how the application of VSD in these wells to control the drastic increase in watercut. By optimizing use VSD, obtained an increase NPV of 1.2 million USD. In this paper the authors will also discuss how to overcome the shortcomings of Electric Submersible Pump to production wells that have a high content of dissolved gas. The Well BST-02 on field Bastian is mature well and producing oil from the production zone layer WS-02. In this zone from DST data indicate that the zone contains GOR 906 scf / stb. Excess gas will decrease the pump and cause problems that can make the pump off. By using VSD, excessive gas problem can be overcome so that the NPV benefits of $ 9.8 million in one year. From the case studies that will be discussed, VSD able to overcome the problems that exist in ESP wells. By addressing these issues will make the wells age increased so as to provide a significant economic impact.
