The Ayeyawaddy Delta and Pyay Embayment basins of lower Myanmar extend offshore beneath the MoattamdTanintharyi Shelf. Exploration activities in this area surged following two significant new discoveries from the lower Miocene reef trend (Yadana area) and from middle Miocene clastics (Yetagun area). In addition, several plays in Pliocene clastics have been successfully drilled in the vicinity. The Yadana pipeline is now ready for marketing and Yetagun development drilling is underway. Areas surrounding the discoveries are being intensively studied to determine economic thresholds to develop additional reserves, which will be needed to maintain peak production rates.
