Qualitative seismic attribute in drilling oil and gas development wells, Keisi Field, Natuna Sea, Indonesia

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 32nd Ann. Conv., 2008
ConocoPhillips Indonesia Inc. Ltd. has just finished drilling 9 development wells at Kerisi Field. Kerisi structure is a four-way dip closure anticline, containing an oil leg overlain by a gas cap. Rock physics analysis from well data suggests that for the Upper Gabus reservoirs, lambda-rho is a good indicator for determining rock quality and highlighting differences between water and hydrocarbon bearing sands. As a result of this observation, a lambda-rho seismic volume was generated through summation of weighted angle stack reflectivity data. Targeted-drilling of low lambda-rho regions yielded excellent well results. As a result, 3 horizontal wells targeting the Miocene Upper Gabus Massive fluvial reservoir were successfully drilled and encountered 100% of fair to very good sand. In addition to the horizontal wells, 3 slant wells targeting Upper Gabus 1B reservoir also found thick and good quality sands. The preliminary evaluation of drilling results indicates that initial production rates will match or exceed pre-drill expectation.
