Sand production in Atlantic Richfield's Offshore North West Java Contract Area has been limited through the use of inside casing gravel packs and, of late, through the use of an epoxy coated gravel slurry. The gravel packed completions incorporate a liner inside casing with slotted sections, external casing packers and port collars selectively located to allow isolation of individual gravel packed produting horizons. The epoxy coated gravel technique involves injection of an epoxy resin coated gravel into the formation to create a highly consolidated and permeable fdtcr for sand control. This paper outlines field application of both techniques with emphasis on design parameters, completion equipment and actual placement procedures.
