Some fresh/brackish water depositional environments in the S.E. Asian Tertiary with emphasis on coal bearing & lacustrine deposits and their source rock potential

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 16th Ann. Conv., 1987

Terrestrial coal bearing sedimentary sequences where oil prone organic material was laid down within the S.E. Asian tertiary have been studied. Much information has been obtained by a detailed examination of palynomorphs, kerogen types and sedimentary textures and structures (palynofacies analysis) over several coal bearing clastic and carbonate sequences. Arguments are presented that favour autochthonous coal deposits as more favourable oil sources than allochthonous coals. However, quantitatively lacustrine environments may be the most important oil source beds in S.E. Asia.
