This paper presents a summary of the recent revision of the 'Geology and Hydrocarbon Resources of Negara Brunei Darussalam' (Sandal, 1996). This book was first published in 1984, edited by D.M.D. James as a joint effort by the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company and the Brunei Museum. Since then a wealth of new information has become available. The 1996 revision follows the flow of the original book, but has been extensively updated and rewritten, including new thinking in regional geology and structure, sequence stratigraphy, deep water sedimentation, overpressures and hydrocarbon habitat. The detailed descriptions of the main producing fields have been updated, and extended wherever necessary .
