The Sedimentation Dynamics and Its Implication for Heavy Oil Mining in “Belidi” High, South Sumatera Basin
Year: 2019
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 43rd Ann. Conv., 2019
Belidi High has the potential to become Indonesia; first heavy oil mining in history. Oil found in the area defined as heavy oil type and with shallow reservoirs, oil mining would become an economic choice. Oil mining would become more economic if it; done on a thick and wide reservoir. Research on the sedimentation dynamics is needed to determine the geometry and the distribution reservoir potential facies. The data used in this research are wireline logs of forty wells, with five of them have core description and biostratigraphic and petrographic data. Lithofacies analysis and deposition environment was done on five wells with core description data. Sequence stratigraphic method used to divide Belidi High stratigraphy into several time frames, which also used for well correlation. The results of this study are represented by two dimensional maps which reflect the model of the sedimentary environment at the time of sediment deposition. Lithofacies in Belidi High stratigraphy are divided into seven, which are breccia, quartz sandstone with conglomerate lenses, quartz sandstone, quartz siltstone, shale, carbonate siltstone, and carbonate sandstone. Those lithofacies were made on four different depositional environment, including alluvial fan, fluvial, tide dominated estuarine, and shallow marine. Sequence Stratigraphic analysis show that there are seven stratigraphic surface in Belidi High which formed by two different sequences. Sedimentation dynamics in Belidi High are dominated by the rise of relative sea level which cause the sedimentation to change from an alluvial fan to fluvial, tide dominated estuarine, and shallow marine. Reservoir found in alluvial fan, fluvial, and tide dominated estuarine tend to be thin and isolated, while reservoir on shallow marine is very thick and wide. Therefore, reservoir on shallow marine would become a better choice for Oil Mining in Belidi High.
