Water Flood Conformance-Innovative And Sequential Approach

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 37th Ann. Conv., 2013

With the growing inventory of wells and with production ramp-up in Rajasthan, the number of sick and problematic wells keeps increasing. Targeting for 175000 bopd and further more from largest and most challenging field in India, we are required to increase our pace of work to embrace new techniques. This means, more production- more wells- quick depletion and hence need for pressure maintenance. Water flooding, an efficient and imperative way of pressure maintenance, is being implemented. It has triggered to solve the issue of “Water Conformance” to make Water Flooding more reliable and commercially viable technique. This paper highlights some important technologies and evolution of thoughts targeting most of the challenges faced with the issue of Water Conformance in injector wells. It includes various mechanical and chemical solutions for resolving the problem in Mangala and Bhagyam injector wells. The paper talks about the application of different chemicals to strategically resolve the problem. It replicates the application of chemical diverters like gel, CaCO3, rock salt to treat the zones to improve water conformance. Paper showcases some of the mechanical applications to pedal the solemn issue of Water Conformance. It discusses the success of Mechanical straddle packer system in handling and resolving the problem of water conformance in injector wells in A Pilot EOR project. On the other hand it also describes the intelligent application of temporary packers to mechanically isolate high injectivity zones to do the needful. An “Out of Box” application of special technique to create in situ drawdown in low injectivity zones to foster injectivity and thereby improve conformance is also covered as a quite innovative method. In nut shell, paper describes planned, analytical, innovative and sequential approach for resolving the problem of water conformance.
