Wax Asphaltene Dissolver Batching & Regular Pigging Activity Correlation to Transferred Oil Gain at 6 Inch MOL EB-EPRO Pipeline PHE ONWJ

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 46th Ann. Conv., 2022

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) field has been in operation for more than 45 years and is located offshore north of West Java Island with an area of 8,300 km2. In 2021, PHE ONWJ's actual oil lifting was 27,129 BOPD or 96.9% from the Indonesian Government lifting target (28,000 BOPD). Currently, PHE ONWJ is attempted in achieving the 2022 oil lifting target (29,500 BOPD). In order to meet the government lifting target, PHE ONWJ maintained and optimized existing assets. Pipeline is a backbone asset in oil transmission between platform. In some areas of PHE ONWJ, the oil contains wax and sand. This debris can cause clogged pipes, disturb oil transport, and ultimately reduce final oil lifting. To prevent a clogged pipeline, PHE ONWJ has conducted wax asphaltene dissolver (chemical) batching followed by regular cleaning pigging. Chemical batching practice is conducted based on fluid content analysis. Before performing chemical batching and regular cleaning pigging. Flow Assurance Engineer predicts the possible deposit inside the pipeline (possible debris recovery volume that might be handled on the receiver side) and pig travel time during cleaning pigging activity. The chemical batching and regular cleaning pigging are part of PHE ONWJ maintenance activities, flow assurance, and extra effort to increase final oil lifting. Every chemical batching and cleaning pigging activity (i.e., chemical volume, travel time, flow station oil gain) is recorded in the database. Then, the data is analyzed to obtain the correlation between chemical batching, regular cleaning pigging, and oil transfer gain. The analysis will be conducted using the statistical method (normal distribution) for the 6” MOL EB-EPRO pipeline and the data from 2017 to 2021 to quantify oil transfer gain value related to chemical batching and cleaning pigging activity. This single pipeline analysis is used as the basis to calculate oil transfer gain in the PHE ONWJ complex pipeline network that can affect total final oil lifting.
