3D seismic data conditioning to enhance fault interpretation
Year: 2007
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 31st Ann. Conv., 2007
Seismic recording sometimes has difficulty describing geologic information in the subsurface. This is caused by complex geological structures altering the ray paths assumed in acquisition and data processing techniques. In some cases conventional seismic recording cannot describe geological events in the data, such as faults. Advanced seismic interpretation techniques such as seismic attributes are therefore needed. However, seismic attribute processing needs accurate geological information and correct parameter adjustment.Seismic data conditioning should be required for fault interpretation. Edge enhancement of seismic attributes along the fault surfaces will provide more information for fault interpretation, both using manual and automatic techniques. This will aid the interpreter in quickly understanding the fault system in their oilfield, by providing better seismic sections with clear fault patterns.Key words: Edge detection, fault interpretation
