Scale deposition is one production problem that usually appears in oil and gas field. Scale is a swarm of deposits that block perforations, casing, production tubing, valves, pumps and downhole completion equipment. Thus, it blocks the wellbore and is preventing fluid flow. Scale problem has been observed in “X field. Type of scale that is generally formed is calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The deposition is formed by the decreasing solubility of bicarbonate ion in formation water along with the changing in physical parameter that occurred as consequence of production process. The lessen solubility causes deposition of ion bicarbonate. In “X field, deposition of scale occurred in the tubing wall, causing reduction of tubing inside diameter which brings effect to production rate and restricts the access of devices. This paper tries to derive a systematic approach in “X field in implementing the scale management program, especially in scale monitoring program by analyzing the statistic curve of Saturation Index value and Acidity. Eventually, there will be a better method to handle the tendency of scale precipitation that can be applied not only in the “X field, but also in other oil and gas fields. Hopefully, this study could bring a proper early scale prediction method as the key value in preventing scale deposition.
