Applications of wireline mobilities in estimating gas well deliverability potential

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 35th Ann. Conv., 2011

Acquisition of formation pressures using wireline are common practice and almost always part of the formation evaluation programme. In addition to the pressure and temperature measurements, sand mobilities are also estimated. The mobility estimates, with some caution, can be used to determine sand permeability and therefore well deliverability. This paper presents two successful examples of applications of wireline formation testings mobilities in estimating formation average permeability and deliverability potential in a gas well. A low to medium permeability range was selected as area of the application of this method. Drill stem tests (DSTs) were carried out over the same intervals, which allowed a direct comparison of the resulted permeability and estimated deliverability. Application of WFT-mobilities in estimating deliverability potential could play a significant role in a multiple stacked-pay system where flow testing each individual sand would certainly lead to time consuming and expensive operations.
