Characterization of deepwater Halang Formation play in Cibingbin, Kuningan, West Java
Year: 2015
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015
Deepwater plays around the world have proven to be major prospects in the last ten years. In Indonesia, particularly in Java, Halang Fm. is one of the promising deepwater plays.
Halang Fm. Mid-Upper Miocene deepwater sedimentation occurred in early rifting of Bogor zone that created steep slope gradient from the neritic shelf margin in the north Java coast to upper bathyal marine along the axis of Bogor Basin, closely related to the gravity flow depositional mechanism in deepwater. This formation comprises sandstone mixed mud and fine-grained quartz, polymict breccia, claystone, conglomerate, tuffaceous shale.
Several depositional elements are recognized in study area: channel axis deposits, mass transport, proximal levee, clay plugged channels, distal overbank levee, splays and distributary lobes.
The depositional sequences occur in fining-upward, blocky stacked amalgamated successions, or stacking patterns, representing progradational lobe or splay deposits, channel-levee migration, and stacking channels with multi-stories.
The study area is located in Cibingbin which is well-known area of widespread Halang Fm deposition. Field outcrop data observations have studied for interpreting and characterizing of this paper. The objective of this study is to further understanding of the conceptual geological model as a guide to distribute analogues in subsurface geophysical data.
