Community Empowerment Model through Community-Based Tourism Development With SDGS Approach in Selangan Village, Bontang City, East Kalimantan Province

As a company that has been active for more than 40 years, Badak LNG has become an inseparable part of Bontang. During that time Badak LNG consistently played an active role in efforts to develop Bontang community; potentials, especially for those around the refinery. The CSR programs of Badak LNG are now more focused on community empowerment. This commitment is realized through a community development program that target fishermen villages named Selangan City program. The program is encouraged by the economic and social problems occur in Selangan: low level economy and difficulty in accessing education and health, which encourages the high rate of migration among Selangan population. To overcome this, Badak LNG and residents of Selangan conducted a comprehensive problem formulation and mapping potential problem solving with community involvement through a tourism aware group Pelangi Pesisir. The implementation of the program is applied in the 4A concept (Accessibility, Amenity, Attraction and Ancillary) and synergized with the achievement of the SDGs target. Accessibility such as repairing the main pier and transportation by local fishermen. Facilities such as tourist huts, access to clean water through the use of rain water for consumption. Attraction such as colorful bridges, snorkeling, scallops hunting, and culinary. Ancillary is to prepare the organization that manages the tourism-destination of Selangan (Pelangi Pesisir). In addition, several SDGs points that were achieved in this program were poverty alleviation, achievement of healthy life, access to clean water and proper sanitation, and community sustainability. Stakeholders who support the implementation of this program including Government, Private Sector and Civil Society. Through this program, Badak LNG hopes to help Bontang and coastal communities, to be empowered and independent and improve their quality of life. This is in accordance with the vision and mission of the Badak LNG Community Development, �Maju Bersama Masyarakat�.
