In a work environment where safety is emphasized, everyone feels responsible and practices safe procedures on a daily basis, employees go beyond ",the call of duty", to identify unsafe conditions and actions, and intervene to correct them. For instance, in such an environment any employee would feel comfortable reminding the site manager or any supervisor to wear safety glasses. This type behavior is not viewed as impolite but is valued by the Company and rewarded.Total E&P Indonesie believes reporting is an important part of the system where the recurrence of incidents can be prevented. In order to encourage all employees (Total and Contractors) to detect and report anomalies and incidents, an initiative named “Anomaly & Incident Reporting Competition was launched in 2004.This monthly competition emphasizes the quality of reporting and is based on several parameters:1. Origin of report: places more value on unsafe acts and self assessment rather than unsafe conditions2. Response to reported hazard: more value when the hazard was immediately eliminated3. Real severity and potential severity4. Professional treatment of the person involved in the event: more appreciation for the reporter who feels comfortable correcting his/her team and/or his/her boss5. Identification of causes: the accuracy of identification of immediate cause and root cause6. Proposed actions: reviewed based on relevance and degree of recurrence avoidance7. General clarity of event description: where, when, who, whatEach month, the jury selects three reports that receiving the three best scores. Prizes are given in the form of money, certificates, recognition in monthly newsletter and the awards are given by the Site Manager in the Site HSE Committee Meeting.
