Corporate social responsibility one of methods to expand the benefit for oil and gas bearing area

One of methods to increase the benefit for oil and gas activities is to utilize the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is a part of Sustainable Development Program (SDP), in order to manage well its working area. The CSR is expected to create comprehensive development program that further it will give more improvement in social and wealthy economic for local communities as part of stakeholders in its surrounding the oil and gas bearing area. The CSR for global changes is to seek the stabilization of oil and gas activity area by applying numerous theories and experiences, specifically in environmental, humanities and regional development. Community welfare can be defined, using CSR, as present: economic, environment and social parameters and then applied to a new scenario in order to optimize the implementation for oil and gas activity. For examples: results of subsurface study, such as groundwater pattern map, could be useful for not only exploitation and development, but also for community activities. That would build a strong partnership with local contractors or suppliers or other stakeholders. As an analogy, the Yellow River Delta in China and the Mahakam Delta in Indonesia, where as the oil activities is located, have a same specific area as the centre and pole of growth for those areas. The use of the basic principle of geology, one of theory and experience, is able to support the development of strategic management, which is needed for necessary adjustment and new cases in order to achieve a local required goal.Implementing CSR practices require overall assessment of sustainable development. However, based on the universal accepted concept of assessment principles, the following are five ways in order to meet practical objectives are the assessment of efficiency, effectiveness, consistency, integration and comprehensiveness that should be decided and clarified. In case of developing countries, such as Indonesia as oil rich resources developing country, the success of CSR is also affected by several conditions, such as good and clean government, political will and transparency from the central government till the local autonomy authority.Keywords: CSR for oil and gas
