Direct current resistivity method for shallow hydrocarbon exploration

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 32nd Ann. Conv., 2008

In some case of reservoir exploration, we can not maximize the use of seismic method. This because of the ground layer is not fully compacted, shallow reservoir or etc. For the shallow reservoir the solution which we used is the geo-electric method. Electricitys of a rock depend on the fluid that fills the pores. The differences between electricitys characteristic that appears as a resistivity from rocks layering might provide information about subsurface such as lithology or fluid that filled the pores. The study case is in the “X field, West Papua where the “X field is a self margin with Kais formation as a hydrocarbons reservoir. From the source data, it is known that “X field has a high porosity and permeability. Seismic survey has been done, but could not describe the hydrocarbons position for sure. Resistivity method with Schlumberger electrodes configuration is used to discover diversity of resistivity in a vertical direction. Curve matchings interpretation method is used to models the buildup of the Kais formation and Dar-Zarrouk Parameter is used to detect the positive anomaly which interpreted as hydrocarbon.
