Djatibarang: the discovery and development of a new oilfield
Year: 1972
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 1st Ann. Conv., 1972
Djatibarang oilfield is located some 170 krn east of Djakarta and named after the town of Djatibarang, 20 km west of it. Well DB 44 struck oil in November 1969. The 29° API gravity crude is highly waxy (pour point 110°F), and sulfur-free. Subsequent drilling gave evidence of sufficient reserves. In the second half of 1970 a feasibility study on the future surface production facilities was started. This study included trunklines, gathering stations, submarine loading lines and tanker loading facilities. A credit and construction agreement was signed by Pertamina and a Japanese group (Far East Trading Co., Mitsui & Co. Ltd and Marubeni-Iida Co.) in December 1970. The agreement was rectified by both the Indonesian and Japanese Governments in August and October 1971. The Japanese group was appointed as the main contractor on a turn-key base, but Pertamina has engaged consultants like Avery-Laurence and Santa-Fe Pomeroy for the design and inspection of the shore facilities. The consultants have been working on the project even before the agreement had been negotiated. In addition, Superintending Co. of Indonesia has been appointed by Pertamina for the inspection of the construction of the submarine line and the single mooring buoy. Construction of the surface and tanker loading facilities, started in October 1971, will be finished by April 1973. Although development drilling will not be terminated by that time, a target of 50.000 bbl/d starting up production has been set so far.
