There are marginal offshore oil field discoveries in Indonesia which cannot justify installation of fixed production platforms but still can be economically developed. A solution to these marginal oil fields under the 1976 Production Sharing Agreement is utilization of Floating Production Systems (FPS). The FPS are becoming more accepted as offshore construction costs continue to increase. These unique relatively low cost production facilities are proving to be the most economical method of oil production in marginal fields. The FPS's are self cotained, complete with modern accomocations for operations and maintenance personnel and are equipped with the latest in production systems. The FPS are capable of production in the 15,000 to 30,000 BDPD range.Two of these floating production systems are currently operational in the Arjuna MM and FF Fields, of the Java Sea, under contract to PertaminalAtlantic Richfield Indonesia Inc. (ARII) by P.T. Resources Jaya Teknik Management Indonesia in conjunction with P.T. Tri-Patra Engineering.This paper is intended to described briefly the unique Arjuna MM and FF floating production systems (FPS), primarily on the economics, selection of equipment and operational experience.
