Identification of fracture zone in Field A using maximum entropy method

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 30th Ann. Conv., 2005

A quick method to identify the lateral distribution of fracture zone based on the seismic spectra has been done. The spectral analysis was done by using the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM). It is well known that higher frequency components of seismic signal are significantly absorbed by the fracture. This absorption affects the seismic data and the dominant frequency of the seismic data will be shifted to the lower frequency. To analyze this change, standard method such as Fourier transform or Wigner distribution can be used. In this work, however, the MEM was used to analyze the seismic spectra. The MEM has narrower spectra compared to the Fourier transform or Wigner distribution and hence will describe changes in frequency better than the Fourier transform or Wigner distribution. The MEM has been applied to seismic data in Field “A and the result has been able to identify lateral distribution of fracture zone. The result also showed that there are different compartments of fracture in the field.
