Internal Check Valve Installation to Eliminate Well Integrity Issue
Year: 2019
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 43rd Ann. Conv., 2019
Several of Belanak wells have problems with internal seal (tubing hanger seal) failure resulting in the hanger carrier test port cannot be bled off to zero even though pressure test and inject sealant were already done however the hanger carrier seal still leak. The wellheads have several internal components containing metal and elastomer seals if lose integrity then can allow wellbore fluids or any other source such as gas lift gas get into various areas of the wellhead. This may create undesirable conditions and possible failures of containments resulting in leaks to surface. The Internal check valve will be installed onto the wellheads by milling out NPT tubing bonnet test port modified into NPT hole with the depth of 1.25 (32 mm) using drill machine. Tapping the inner hole with NPT tap then the outer hole with NPT tap. After tapping the thread (1/2 NPT and NPT) shall be gauged with the proper gauging tool. Once the enlarged hole is created, installing internal check valve and test port fitting on hanger carrier test port as well as for the pressure tested for each size of internal check valve to confirm no leak. Installing the internal check valve and test port fitting on hanger carrier test port proved to be an effective method for having double barriers condition which eliminate the well integrity issue and the well will be continuously produced to recover remaining reserved. This successfully the internal check valve installation is applied to other wells having similar problems. Keyword (s): hanger carrier, bonnet, check valve and drilling.
