Investor Survey of the Indonesian Oil and Gas Industry

PricewaterhouseCoopers Indonesia is undertaking its 4th edition (undertaken on a bi-annual basis) of an Investor Survey of the Indonesian Oil and Gas Industry. The purpose of the survey is to inform thepublic and private sectors in Indonesia and abroadabout Indonesias upstream petroleum industry andto highlight some of the challenges facing the Indonesia upstream oil and gas industry in attractingoptimal investment and achieving its full potential. The current survey questionnaire was sent in April 2010 to approximately 300 senior management individuals (Country Managers, CFO, COO, Finance Managers, etc) working for oil and gas companies and oilfield service providers currently active in the Indonesia oil and gas sector. The survey results will be presented in May 2010 at the 34th Annual Indonesia Petroleum Association Convention. The survey covers the following areas: 1) Supply and demand for oil and gas, 2) Employment, 3) Capital Expenditures, 4) Challenges facing the industry, 5) Competitiveness of the Indonesia oil and gas sector, 6) Recent developments, and 7) Other Challenges. The top 5 challenges as identified in the 2008 survey were: 1) Uncertainty over cost recovery andBP Migas/BPKP audit findings, 2) Contract sanctity, 3) Interference from other government agencies, such as the tax authorities, 4) Taxation, and 5) Security of assets, people and ownership rights. The 2010 survey results will be compared with the prior survey results to highlight any trends that may exist.We hope that the survey will prove informative for all stakeholders in drawing reliable and accurate conclusions about the state of the Indonesia oil and gas sector and offer some suggested solution to improving the investment climate.
