In the Cuu Long Basin, the Oligocene sediments have formed a megasequence which can be identified on seismic data. It is divided into three sequences corresponding to three seismic units named E, D and C. The E sequence in this paper corresponds to Lower Oligocene sediments, the D and C sequences correspond to Upper Oligocene sediments. Presented below are some results of studies on lithofacies and environments of deposition and their relationship to the hydrocarbon potential of the basin.
