Petroleum geology of offshore Da Nang, Central Vietnam

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., International Conference on Petroleum Systems of SE Asia and Australasia, 1997

The offshore Da Nang area presented in this paper is defined by a Production Sharing Contract between BP-Statoil and PetroVietnam from 1989-1995, covering Vietnamese Blocks 117, 118 and 119. During the exploration period of 6 years, over 10,000 km of seismic were acquired, gravity and magnetic data were recorded, seabed coring was undertaken, and four wells were drilled. Gas bearing reservoirs were found in each well and together a very large gas quantity was discovered. Considerable remaining low risk exploration potential exists. Prospectivity of the deeepwater area appears to have the key elements needed for hydrocarbon accumulations, but this area is yet to be drilled.
