Planning, Organization and Success of A Wide, Detailed Geophysical Survey offshore Makasar Strait
Year: 2012
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 36th Ann. Conv., 2012
eni Indonesia is planning to undertake an Oil & Gas field development offshore Indonesia, within the Muara Bakau block. The field is located in the Makassar strait, East of Kalimantan Island, approximately 70km offshore., The production field is located along the continental scarp, within water depths ranging from 150m to about 500m. A detailed geophysical survey has been carried out across the wide area of the planned deepwater plant to investigate the subsea features for an evaluation of the geohazards and for the design of the flowlines connecting the production wells to the onshore plant,. A significant challenge for the survey was the need to collect a wide spectrum of data in a single surveying session and to cover all the requirements set by the future phases of the project, as required to comply with the schedule of the ongoing "fast track" design of the plant. A significant effort in terms of resources was needed during all the activities related to the organization, planning and direction of the work. These efforts started from the very early phases of the definition of the surveying activities, through problem solving during the site work. In addition, considerations were made for the very delicate phases of the contractor selection, the verification of the suitability of the instruments proposed and the adaptive approach that was followed to cope with the results that were obtained during the survey. * eni e&p * eni Indonesia A lesson learned was that not only the technical issues are relevant for such a complex class of surveys. It was found that the same level of attention was needed for planning, quality assurance and for the continuous technical assistance, both onboard and from the onshore side. All these aspects were of paramount importance for final high quality results.
