Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 38th Ann. Conv., 2014
Utilizing a Rotating Control Device in drilling operation has proven to enhance safety for both personnel and equipment on a drilling rig. To assist drilling operation safely in critical environment, such as gas expansion and H2S release, additional equipment, a Rotating Control Devices as part of the drilling operation becomes a requirement.
This paper will discuss how Rotating Control Devices assisted drilling operation in Indonesia for onshore, offshore and deepwater drilling operation which involves Managed Pressure Drilling and Pressurized Mud Cap Drilling. The Rotating Control Devices has successfully sealed and diverted the return fluid from wellbore as well as influx for some application and protected personnel on the rig floor.
Details on how the system was safely and efficiently installed and subsequently deployed, as well as the set-up and procedures utilized will be elaborated. Further improvements to the system and to the operation are also discussed for future Drilling Operations.
