The MPT-1x exploration well has confirmed its discovery with initial targets in the Sepinggan Deltaic Sequences (SDS) interval. The well moreover confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the shallow part known as the Sepinggan Carbonate Sequences (SCS). Siliciclastic reservoirs in the SCS interval have not been well explored within Mahakam PSC and considered as hazardous carbonate intervals. This paper aims to uncover significant discovery within the vicinity of existing brown fields correspond to average recovery factor imply EUR to IGIP which is more than 70%. Initially, SDS was the only main objective of the exploration well. However, while carefully drilling SCS interval, in which the interval previously assumed as hazardous carbonate intervals, significant gas responses encountered and observed from both siliciclastic sandstones between carbonate intervals and carbonate layers. It indicates the hydrocarbon potential within SCS interval. Having opportunity to acquire complete logging data acquisitions enable to perform thorough petrophysical analysis, which later confirmed by pressure gradient, fluid analysis, and drill stem test (DST) acquisitions. Encouraging results of DST data at SCS interval using flow after flow (FAF) test, which flow: 16.6 MMscfd gas rate and 345 bpd condensate rate with last choke size 44/64” is finally observed. Superior 3D seismic data produced by recent QPSDM-FWI reprocessing, has provided better depth prediction during drilling. Utilizing recent seismic data, which has been enhanced on reflector continuity permitting seismic interpretation insurance and better-quality of seismic attributes i.e.: variance and spectral decomposition. As follow up for the encouraging result of exploration MPT-1x well, particularly utilizing new seismic data and revisit logs interpretation from surrounding fields, comprehensive studies of the hydrocarbon potential in SCS interval for both carbonate and siliciclastic reservoir are performed to delineate new prospective resources in adjacent fields. This study offers the sustainability of hydrocarbon future production in Mahakam.
