As part of Mobil Oil Indonesia's ongoing drilling effectiveness, a study was initiated to evaluate the performance of Stratapax bits and to compare their performance with conventional diamond and rock bits. The specific area of interest was the drilling of the Arun limestone. Although only six Stratapax bits have been run in the Arun field at this report writing, performance of the Sratapax bits have been encouraging and further test runs will be made. The penetration rates and time on bottom obtained have been far better than conventional bits. The criteria used for comparision of Stratapax and conventional bits was trip time, rate of penetration and cost per foot drilled.
