In modern oil and gas industry, use of a computerized maintenance management system is crucial to streamline and simplify the maintenance activities. There are an abundance of maintenance software systems commercially available with complex features and premium prices. Acquiring this costly software, when many of the features will be unused or else un-customizable to meet company’s requirements, could be an unnecessary investment.
This paper highlights contributions from a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), called INTRAMAS (Integrated Asset Management) that has been developed in-house by some of the authors, to avoid the purchase of commercially available specialized software. By using common, simple software and by empowering personnel from the Maintenance Department, the Information Technology Department, and assisted by internship students from a reputable university in Indonesia, i.e. the ITS, this application has been built with minimum budget and successfully accommodates some of the issues related to the common matters in maintenance management including equipment history, asset registers, authorization system, work order, work requests, Standard Operation Procedures, KPIs and other functions. It boasts features such as a web-based environment and is proven to meet user expectations.
This system has significantly improved the maintenance strategy of the company. According to the maintenance assessment report conducted by SKK Migas (Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities Republic of Indonesia), Lapindo Brantas Inc. was awarded with a predictive level (optimization level) that placed the company in the same league as other reputable oil and gas companies, in maintaining its oil and gas facilities in Indonesia. With this achievement, Lapindo Brantas Inc. became benchmark in developing in-house CMMS as other Production Sharing Contract (PSC) companies in Indonesia.
