Sustain cycle pipeline integrity management system
Year: 2015
Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015
Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) is the holistic methodology to validate the fit for service of pipeline system status for pipeline operation continuation. Therefor it is important to appropriately setup PIMS to deliver the sustainability of oil and gas product in accordance to expected service life. Not only during operation, PIMS shall be setup and implemented during pipeline development project hence the pipeline system design can accommodate not only a proper design, fabrication, and construction but also reliable pipeline operation. The inappropriate applied PIMS in pipeline development stage can create critical issues in the subsequent operation stage and be even further to pipeline decommissioning stage in the end of pipeline service live.
Reliable pipeline operation means the pipeline shall be fit for purpose or service. Fit for service statement can be obtained from integrity assessment result based on inspection results. In accordance to integrity assessment result, the way forward for maintenance program and also the requirements for repair, if required, can be decided.
In pipeline operation phase, the maintenance is crucial to deliver the expected product flowrate whilst inspection is critical as the reference and basis of the integrity assessment to assure the mechanical integrity of the pipeline system.
In order to have a robust pipeline system, the integrated Pipeline Integrity Management System shall cover, as minimum, Risk Management, Protective System, Inspection and Maintenance, Integrity Assessment, Emergency Pipeline Repair Management, up to Incident Investigation.
