Data employed in reservoir modelling should be of an appropriate volume to provide local stationarity and homogeneity, to satisfy the geostatistical criteria. It is rare in petrophysical data acquisition to check that these conditions are satisfied. Multi-Tip-Size (MTS) probe permeameter provides speedy, non-destructive sampling at high density, and close space at multi volumes. The key feature of the MTS is the use of different tip size to measure the permeability at different sample support volumes. By using the MTS probe permeameter, the data can be screened to assess whether they are appropriate for upscaling or modelling.A numerical method of a probe permeameter was created to help understand the tool response in the carbonate rock. Results show that the device is sensitive to the effective pore area and can be used as a qualitative measure of vug connectivity. To demonstrate the ability of this method in quantifying the upscaling process and to obtain the appropriate averaging method in carbonate rock, an upscaling experiment was performed. The averaging method at the plug scale can be specified from the probe data and the Hassler cube data by comparison.
