During a logging survey on Tunu 9 well in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, a positive streaming SP was observed and interpreted as a fluid entry coming from the formation into the hole. The drilling supervisor, warned of the flowing zone, controlled the kick successfully.This paper is to highlight the existence of electrokinetic effects which can lead to a wrong interpretation of the SP when used for formation resistivity evaluation, and to point out the usefulness of this effect in particular cases such as the one above.
